Location: Upper West Side, New York, NY (ZIP 10025 — ideally within a 2-mile radius)
Schedule: Every Other Saturday (4 hours)
Hours: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Type: 1099 Independent Contractor

ROLE OVERVIEW

Seeking a multi-skilled, detail-oriented professional to provide high-standard housekeeping and light personal assistance in a private residence on the Upper West Side.
The client is a 96-year-old, legally blind woman with 70% hearing loss who values independence, order, and gentle, respectful support.

This role is dual-natured: part meticulous housekeeper ( immaculate cleaning ), part attentive household assistant ( situational awareness and sensitivity ). You must be capable of anticipating needs, noticing details others miss, and creating a calm, well-kept environment.
You must be reliable, intuitive, and capable of working quietly and efficiently in a calm environment.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must speak and understand English fluently
  • Bonus if multilingual (Spanish or French)

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean, organize, and maintain a two-bedroom, 2.5-bath home to a premium standard
  • Vacuum every visit; mop as needed; deep clean seasonally
  • Maintain color-coded cleaning practices (no cross-contamination between rooms)
  • Assist with small household tasks and errands (Trader Joe’s, Duane Reade, post office)
  • Support during grocery deliveries — help bring in, sort, and refrigerate items
  • Provide light assistance as needed (e.g., opening bottles, watering plants, or simple tasks requiring vision or dexterity)
  • Help care for a small guard dog who barks frequently; comfort and calm him as part of the home rhythm
  • Seasonal Deep Cleaning sessions four times a year

WORK RHYTHM & EXPECTATIONS

Each shift will come with a checklist of priorities, either emailed beforehand or presented upon arrival.
You are responsible for structuring your time professionally and completing tasks within the four-hour window.

You are expected to use initiative and judgment — notice what needs attention and act without being told.
If you see a spill, clean it. If supplies are low, restock them.

Appliance care (refrigerator, microwave, toaster, etc.) is part of your duties, with deeper tasks reserved for Seasonal Deep Cleaning .
This is a flat-rate role — no “extras.” You won’t do every task every visit, but you must be ready and capable of performing any when required.

RELIABILITY & CLIENT SENSITIVITY

This is not a traditional housekeeping role , and the client is not traditional .
Because of her visual and hearing limitations, your presence carries weight — if you don’t show up or communicate, she may worry or feel unsafe.

If you can’t attend a shift, give a 48-hour notice via email so coverage can be arranged.
A backup professional is always on file, but notice is essential to activate coverage.

No texts for work matters — email only. In true emergencies (illness, transit failure), call directly.
Reliability and compassion are as important as cleaning skill.

APPEARANCE & HYGIENE STANDARDS

Although it should go without saying, personal hygiene is imperative.

  • No perfume, cologne, or scented products
  • Clean, neat appearance; trimmed nails and tidy hair
  • Arrive 15 minutes early to change into your provided uniform (do not commute wearing it)
  • Change out of uniform before leaving; uniforms are laundered on-site during laundry days
  • All cleaning supplies are provided
  • Use transparent gloves for food handling; blue, yellow, black for designated areas
  • Dispose of gloves after every session — never reuse

PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT & BOUNDARIES

  • No phone use, texting, or music during shifts — remain alert to hear if the client calls
  • Keep all conversations professional; never share personal details even if asked
  • Do not accept gifts or personal offers
  • No outside food, guests, or personal items in the home
  • All communication with the agency must be by email
  • Only same-day emergencies may be handled by phone

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

You must be in good health, able to stand, bend, and move freely for extended periods, and capable of safely lifting or carrying up to 25 lbs (e.g., grocery bags, small boxes, or light equipment).

COMPENSATION & APPLICATION

This rate reflects both the premium cleaning standard and multi-skilled support the role requires.

This is a 1099 Independent Contractor position , not a cash job.
All tax obligations are the contractor’s responsibility.
